WELLA PROFESSIONALS is a German company founded in 1880 by Franz Ströher. The company originally only made wigs. In 1890, Franz Ströher invented Tullemoid Waterproof, a technique that allowed the scalp to breathe. In 1894 he opened his first factory in Rothenkirchen, Steinberg, Saxony. Franz Ströher was married and his sons Karl and George Ströher joined the business.
MoreIn 1924, Ströhers registered the name WELLA PROFESSIONALS with the German Patent Office. As the demand for wigs and hairpieces declined from the fashion world, the company turned to permanent hair and waving products. In 1927, they introduced the first perm device to beauty salons.
