Measure sodium chloride concentration in hot tub water so salt additions are based on measured results. Compare the indicator colour with the chart on the container. Useful during initial water preparation and after adding salt to check the resulting concentration.

Hot Spring FreshWater salt test strips measure hot tub water salinity, or sodium chloride concentration, a parameter essential to salt system operation. They help establish whether salt is needed and check the concentration after it dissolves. Compare the indicator colour with the chart on the container to read the result during water care.

The pack contains 25 single-use strips for initial FreshWater salt system setup and ongoing salt level checks. Testing lets you match additions to the actual water condition and avoid adding more than necessary. This is a dedicated sodium chloride test: chlorine, pH and other chemistry readings require their own strips. It complements the 5-way test with information needed for salt system maintenance.

Salt test strips and their main benefits

  • Sodium chloride concentration testing specifically for hot tub salt level monitoring.
  • Helps base salt additions on a measured result.
  • Read the result by comparing the indicator colour with the chart on the container.
  • 25 strips for repeated checks during FreshWater salt system care.

How to use

  • Step 1. Before adding salt, remove one strip with dry hands and close the container tightly. Do not touch the indicator pad with wet fingers.
  • Step 2. Immerse the strip in hot tub water for the time stated on its container. Remove it and hold it level to read the indicator colour.
  • Step 3. Compare the result with the salt concentration chart at the exact time stated on the label. The FreshWater Salt System target is 1750 ppm, with an operating range of 1500–2000 ppm.
  • Step 4. If the test shows a low salt level, add FreshWater salt gradually according to the system's dosing instructions. Let it dissolve completely and retest with a fresh strip.
  • Step 5. If the salt level exceeds the system's range, do not add more salt. Reduce concentration by replacing part of the hot tub water with fresh water, then retest according to system instructions.

A salt concentration reading does not indicate the chlorine level in the water. Before using the hot tub, check the sanitiser level and other required water parameters separately.

Product story

Each part of the FreshWater salt system has its own role. Salt supplies the raw material for chlorine generation, the cartridge carries out that process, and salt test strips help monitor sodium chloride concentration. Using these elements together creates a clear care routine in which additions are guided by water tests.

Salt level is a distinct parameter and requires its own test. It complements 5-way strips, which measure chlorine, bromine, pH, alkalinity and hardness. Together, the tests cover different parameters that cannot be replaced by a single reading.

With 25 strips in the pack, checks can be repeated at different stages: preparing the water, deciding whether to add salt and checking the result after dissolution. The container's colour chart links the reading to the next action and supports regular, considered hot tub water care.

Frequently asked questions

Do these strips test chlorine and pH?

No. They measure salt, or sodium chloride, concentration. Other parameters require their own tests.

How many strips are included?

The pack contains 25 salt test strips.

When should I check the salt level?

Before replenishing salt, after added salt has dissolved, and during salt system maintenance.

About Hot Spring Spas

Hot Spring Spas is an American hot tub brand founded in California in 1977. Part of Watkins Wellness, it specialises in hot tubs for relaxation at home and solutions for maintaining spa water. Its range combines massage features with filtration, insulation and water-treatment technologies.

When choosing a hot tub, consider the seating layout, massage functions and everyday maintenance. For existing owners, the priority is finding hot tub water-care products and accessories that match the installed system.

What is Hot Spring Spas known for?

One of the brand's technologies is the Moto-Massage DX system used in the Highlife collection. Its moving jets send two streams of water up and down the back. This collection also uses Tri-X filters and no-bypass filtration, which prevents water from bypassing the filters.

Limelight and Hot Spot spas use FiberCor insulation. Energy Smart brings together features designed to retain heat and manage energy use. Check the specification of the individual model to see which features it includes.

The FreshWater Salt System generates chlorine from salt dissolved in the water. This sanitising technology still requires water testing and adherence to the manufacturer's instructions. Compatibility depends on the hot tub model and production year.

The Hot Spring Spas range

Hot tub collections

Highlife, Limelight and Hot Spot offer different combinations of seating, massage functions and equipment. The official brand range also includes the Freeflow collection, with rotationally moulded shells. Compare dimensions, seating capacity, installation requirements and intended use when choosing a model.

Think about how many people will normally use the hot tub and which seating arrangement will be most comfortable. When planning its position, check access to service areas and consult the model's technical documentation.

FreshWater salt, test strips and cartridges

FreshWater Spa Salt is intended for compatible salt systems. FreshWater salt test strips check salt concentration, while 5-Way test strips measure other water parameters. Replacement salt-system cartridges form a separate category of maintenance supplies.

Before ordering, compare the product reference, intended use and compatibility with your system. Salt testing and multi-parameter water testing serve different purposes. The maintenance accessory range also includes the Spa Vac cleaner.

Who are Hot Spring Spas products for?

The range is relevant to people planning a relaxation space at home and existing hot tub owners looking for compatible maintenance supplies. Start with your hot tub model and installed water-care system. Follow the model's owner's manual when planning regular maintenance.
